FAQ
HOW ACCURATE ARE YOUR TRANSLATIONS?
It’s nearly impossible to carry all of one’s meaning in the intended amount of detail in another language, so we do our best. Because we are not all native-born Korean or Koreans living in Korea right now, there are certain idioms, phrases, and modern expressions that are unfamiliar to us. In which case, we use reliable Korean sites such as Naver and Daum to help us out. Even still, there may be slight discrepancies but not enough to stray from the general message. We are not professional paid translators, but fans who do this out of their love and passion for BTS. Please know that we will always give it our best.
CAN I USE YOUR TRANSLATIONS?
For translating into another language:
Yes, just make sure to credit us. Either by leaving a link to our page or original translation.
For video compilations:
Yes, however, please leave our logo as it appears in the video. Along with a credit to BTS-Trans/Bangtan Subs in the description box, preferably with a link to our social media account(s) and/or the original video(s). We understand if linking to the original videos isn’t being done, since it can be quite difficult when using lots of videos. However, it’s still our most preferred method.
To share:
If it’s personal use, for example to your friend via a message, then yes please go ahead and don’t worry about the credits. However, when, for example, sharing a funny clip - or how much you like a certain part of their lyrics to a bigger audience, please credit us by linking to our page, or to the original translation.
DO NOT REPOST/UPLOAD OUR VIDEOS ONTO SECONDARY WEBSITES. Thank you.
HOW MANY STAFF MEMBERS DO YOU HAVE? ARE ANY OF THEM KOREAN?
Currently our staff is made up of approximately 25 members, but they are not available 24/7 due to personal commitments such as school, work, etc. They are composed of admins, secretaries, Korean/Japanese/Mandarin translators, timers and typesetters from all around the world. For more information about our staff, feel free to check out our staff page!
DO YOU MAKE ANY MONEY BY TRANSLATING/SUBBING?
No. We are a non-profit, fan-based subbing team dedicated to providing translations for international ARMYs. We do not get paid by any third party for our translations or videos (eg. we do not monetize our YouTube videos; any ads seen on our channel are placed by BigHit/other companies due to copyright claims on their content), and though we do take donations, all money donated is put towards our website and file hosting costs.
THOUGH BIGHIT PROVIDES CAPTIONS NOW, WILL YOU STILL SUB BANGTAN BOMBS?
No. Our official statement explains how we’ve decided to move forward now that Bangtan Bombs are captioned. We understand that this is a big change, as subbing Bangtan Bombs was the core of our YouTube channel. We are eternally thankful for everyone who discovered us through these and found them helpful. While we genuinely appreciate all the love and support we’ve been given for these videos specifically, our team exists to be a bridge for international ARMY. We will continue to translate and sub BTS content that requires it, provide context and detail when needed, but we will not redo work BigHit is providing.
CAN YOU HELP ME LEVEL UP ON THE FANCAFE?
No. Sadly, taking out the fancafe level up questions is forbidden so we can’t post a tutorial. It is clearly stressed that level-up questions should not be taken out and translated, and taking out any media for members of the fancafe cannot be translated either. Rule-breaking has gone noticed by BigHit because of previous misuse, and thus their rules are getting more difficult. Please do not ask us to help you with fancafe.
CAN YOU TRANSLATE ___ FOR ME?
No. Unfortunately, personal fan requests that are not released BTS material will not be fulfilled. We cannot guarantee they will be done on time, in addition to it being unfair if we selectively choose to help some fans and not others.
WHEN WILL ____ BE SUBBED?
Our team tries to sub whatever we can as soon as possible. Projects vary according to its content, so full-length videos take longer to finish, and videos with lots of and/or overlapping dialogue requires extra time and effort for translators. Not everyone is available to work as soon as something is released, in addition to time zone differences. There are many steps to subbing a video fully, and we always strive to put out a quality product, so all we ask is patience.
CAN YOU SUB ____ ?
Before requesting a video, please check our progress log to see what videos we are currently working on and/or are planning to work on > here
- Note that if you do not see a major BTS appearance on this progress log, it is almost always because it is subbed, or has been announced to be subbed, on other official sources.
Additionally, please go through our archive to make sure we haven’t previously subbed this video > here
Unable to find your video? Then feel free to send in your video request > here ! :)
- Please keep in mind that we do not translate/sub paid content (eg. DVDs, Bon Voyage, In The Soop) or fancams/fanmade videos!
